Aracelis's comment: I was able to see the prezi.com presentation. I really like how did you organized the content and the movement of your presentation. Avatar would be a great resource to use with upper elementary grades. Students would be very enthusiastic about this innovations. If cost effective and adaptable to different learning styles are characteristic make avatars appealing, then is worth it. Finally, what I liked the most was your photo of Atchinson Consulting Services.
Dona's commnt: The presentation looked really good, and your pacing on the sound made nice to listen to during the presentation. I did not know very much about avatars prior to your work on this project. It was a well done project:)
Anne's comment: Derek--great job! Well planned and executed! Avatar-based learning is new, but it can be tremendously effective because of the physical separation between the person and their avatar: if a mistake is made it is the avatar that made it, so the human doesn't beat themselves up about it, they just make a mental note that they will not mess up in the same way that that avatar did--these were the preliminary conclusions from an internal study on foreign language study done by a government organization (never actually published because the project was shot down by the IT security people). The handwriting is still on the wall, however, so the ability to distance one's self during the learning process is a very unique concept. If you pursue this topic, also check out Nick Yee's work (a former student of Dr. Balenson). His dissertation on the Proteus Effect is fascinating!

Derek's comment: Your comparison of innovation diffusion to Niagara Falls was dynamic. Streaming videos have become such a media standard in the classroom for the many reasons that you stated in your presentation. Your ideas for applications are terrific. Have you ever tried the streaming from a cellphone, using such sites as http://www.livestream.com/ or http://qik.com/ ? Though allowing cellphones in the classroom represents another hurdle for schools to address and overcome, consider the many uses of this application to education (and social media creation).
Derek--because cell phones are prohibited items in the buildings where I work, we do not even consider them for thraining delivery (I am well aware of the advantages and opportunities that are being missed, but until official policy changes, nothing else changes.

Anne's Comment: Dona--this is really well-done! I really liked the fact that you included a strategy for dealing with the laggards and bringing them up to speed, mostly through mentoring, which for many of these is far less threatening to them than technology. Your visual design was good, although I could not get audio to play on either version (audio with PowerPoint in a wiki is a problematic thing even under the best of circumstances--I feel your pain! I ended up posting mine on an external site to get the audio files to transfer correctly.

I liked when you mention how helpful streaming videos are for children that have to stay hospitalized. I really liked it.
Aracelis--thank you for your kind words! There are so many possible applications for technology that exist, and we are only limited by our imaginations. I am glad to see that you are using visual media in the classroom, because I agree that it is an extrememly powerful and effective way of presenting information! I am that visual learner who keeps saying "SHOW ME!"--I just wish that this technology had been available when I was in school, as I think I would have greatly benefited from it.
Dona's comment: I woudl agree that your visuals were great especially the Niagara Falls comparison and the fountain. I think visuals added a great deal to your presentation. It was nicely organized.

Derek's comment: Your slideshow is very impressive. I see that vodcasts are not being used very much in the K-12 classrooms. Perhaps technologies like the iPad and the iPod will make vodcasts more accessible as these devices move into the K-12 classrooms. You may want to hyperlink the URLs in your slideshow for ease of access during the presentation. Good job!
Anne's Comment: Aracelis--this was a very good presentation. You made a compelling case for adopting vodcasts into the curriculum. I agree with Derek that I would have liked the references to be hyperlinked so that I could check them on the fly, but otherwise it was nicely presented.
Dona's comment: I agree, your presentation was good. The information on vocasting made the case for adopting vocasting. One thing I was not sure about ws whether there was suppose to be sound. If there was suppose to be sound I was not able to hear it. I know I was having some issues with my presentation when it was loaded into slideshow. I decided to also post the powerpoint straight into the wiki as well. When I did that it played the narraton.

Blogs, wikis, and podcasts have been researched ad nauseum since they entered the classroom. What innovative use of these web 2.0 tools are you going to use to sell your ideas for your final project? Would clustering the tools be useful for your job ( although Ning & LiveJournal have already clustered blogs, wikis, & podcasts)? ~Derek
Dona response: I have not actually seen any of these technolgies included in any of the K-12 educational settings in my area. This does not mean there are not any, just I have no knowledge of them. I was approaching the assignment from the point of view of clustering these tools as a beneficial adaptation for high school activities for pee-to-peer collaboration, as well as, connection to community resources for project oriented learning in regards to connecing content to the real world experience. The goal is to make learning more meaningful to the students without sacrificing the achievement of knowledge. As always I am open to any suggestions or input that will improve the overall process.
